About the position

Leidos is seeking a Senior Substation Site Civil Engineer to join our site/civil department in our growing Framingham, Massachusetts office, focusing on a variety of electric utility projects. Typical projects involve site/civil design engineering for both large and small-scale utility projects. Candidates with commercial or industrial site development experience will also be considered for this role. In this position, the candidate will primarily function as a senior engineer, performing design reviews regularly, developing junior staff members, and contributing to bids and proposal development. The role will also involve taking on a responsible engineer role on main client projects, overseeing the work, and ensuring quality control on design packages. Site visits to client substation facilities are expected, along with occasional travel for client meetings and industry-related events. Experience in front-facing client operations, such as lunch and learns and kick-off meetings, is preferred. The candidate must comply with quality control and safe work practices while maintaining compliance with project scope, schedule, and budget expectations. This position will be a senior member of a design team comprised of engineers, designers, and drafting technicians. While the position is ideally based at the Leidos office in Framingham, Massachusetts, other locations such as Charlotte, North Carolina; Orlando, Florida; and Chicago, Illinois will also be considered. Hybrid or fully remote work options may be available, but candidates must be able to relocate to or live within the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Perform design reviews on civil engineering projects.
  • Develop junior staff members and contribute to their growth.
  • Oversee main client projects and ensure quality control on design packages.
  • Conduct site visits to client substation facilities.
  • Participate in client meetings and industry-related events.
  • Ensure compliance with quality control and safe work practices.
  • Maintain compliance with project scope, schedule, and budget expectations.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with other design disciplines.
  • Prepare construction drawings and specifications.
  • Conduct construction observation and field engineering.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in Civil Engineering.
  • 4+ years of directly applicable civil-site design experience.
  • P.E. license preferred.
  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D software and/or MicroStation OpenSite Designer software.
  • Experience with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling & design programs such as Hydraflow and ICPR.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Strong analytical and technical writing skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients and staff.
  • Ability to execute projects and handle clients successfully with limited supervision.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25%.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S.
