About the position

The position involves supervising and coordinating the safe and efficient operation of a work unit at Freeport-McMoRan's Miami smelter and rod plant. The role requires ensuring production schedules are met while adhering to safety and operational procedures. The supervisor will work closely with various operational and staff areas to maintain production efficiency and compliance with regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, coordinate, and control the operation of an assigned work unit through subordinate Supervisors.
  • Ensure continued operations of production shifts through execution of the production plan and schedules.
  • Provide Operations input for production and maintenance planning.
  • Ensure adherence to safety and operating procedures and compliance with federal and state laws.
  • Inspect assigned work units to ensure schedules and objectives are attained.
  • Coordinate daily with other Operational and staff areas, including Maintenance, Processing, Engineering, Safety, Environmental, and Sales.
  • Directly supervise first-line or shift Supervisors.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED and seven (7) years of related operational experience, including supervisory or lead experience, OR Bachelor's degree in a technical mining related discipline and three (3) years of operational experience, including supervisory or lead experience.
  • Knowledge of supervisory methods and techniques.
  • Skilled in resolving day-to-day questions/problems regarding equipment, materials, methods and procedures needed to complete projects.
  • Skilled in budget preparation, monitoring and administration.
  • Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Nice-to-haves

  • Project management skills: developing Job scope, sourcing contractors, organizing bid walks and supervising complex projects.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting and diagnostics utilizing test equipment, drawings, manufacturer manuals.
  • Experience in utilizing Computers, Tablets, Microsoft Office software, SAP and other business objects software.
  • Experience with NFPA 70E, IEEE, MSHA, OSHA, ISO and EPA guidelines.
  • Ability to evaluate risks and drive safe company work practices.
  • Experience utilizing PLC, DCS and relays in an industrial process.
  • Experience installing and maintaining instrumentation devices: Pressure, temperature, flow, valves, analytical devices.
