About the position

The Senior Civil Construction Supervisor at National Grid is responsible for overseeing civil contract work and coordinating daily activities of contractor crews to ensure safety, compliance, and timely service delivery. This hybrid role requires a strong understanding of civil construction principles and the ability to manage multiple projects while adhering to regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate daily activities of assigned civil contractors for electric utility construction projects.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, security, and environmental standards at work locations.
  • Understand project scope and contract details to ensure timely and budget-compliant job delivery.
  • Provide quality assurance for work performed according to National Grid specifications and contractual documents.
  • Review engineering drawings and technical specifications, and confirm necessary permits are in place before work starts.
  • Document contractor activities, prepare reports, and verify contractor invoicing accuracy.
  • Perform inspections to ensure compliance with company specifications and standards.
  • Identify and document safety/environmental incidents in the Incident Management System.

Requirements

  • Minimum two-year technical degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of relevant civil construction experience in electric utility operations or similar industry.
  • Strong knowledge of Federal, State, OSHA, and local safety and environmental regulations.
  • Ability to read and interpret job scope, prints, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Thorough understanding of civil construction principles, equipment, and work methods.
  • Ability to develop a strong safety culture and administer safe work practices.
  • Self-motivated with strong time management and record-keeping skills.
  • Hands-on experience with challenging field construction work and willingness to travel.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with electric utility operations and conduit/duct bank construction.
  • Familiarity with ISNetworld for incident documentation.
