About the position

The Senior Supervisor Smelter Operations at Freeport-McMoRan is responsible for overseeing the safe and efficient operation of the smelter and rod plant. This role involves supervising subordinate supervisors, ensuring adherence to safety and operational procedures, and coordinating with various operational and staff areas to meet production goals. The position requires a strong focus on safety, compliance with regulations, and effective communication within the team and across departments.

Responsibilities

• Supervise, coordinate, and control the operation of an assigned work unit through subordinate Supervisors.
• Ensure continued operations of production shifts through execution of the production plan and schedules.
• Provide Operations input for production and maintenance planning.
• Ensure adherence to correct safety and operating procedures and compliance with federal and state laws and regulations.
• Inspect assigned work units to ensure schedules and objectives are attained.
• Coordinate daily with other Operational and staff areas, including Maintenance, Processing, Engineering, Safety, Environmental, and Sales.
• Directly supervise first-line or shift Supervisors.
• Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED and seven (7) years of related operational experience, including supervisory or lead experience, OR a Bachelor's degree in a technical mining related discipline and three (3) years of operational experience, including supervisory or lead experience.
• Knowledge of supervisory methods and techniques.
• Skilled in resolving day-to-day questions/problems regarding equipment, materials, methods and procedures needed to complete projects.
• Skilled in budget preparation, monitoring and administration.
• Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
• Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
