About the position

The George Washington University (GW) Office of Survey Research and Analysis is seeking a detail-oriented Senior Survey Research Analyst to play a pivotal role in planning, gathering, analyzing, and summarizing survey data. This position is essential for providing university stakeholders with reliable and accurate information that aids in making informed planning decisions. The Senior Survey Research Analyst will manage the development and analysis of both internal and external surveys, ensuring the creation of effective surveys, summarizing data accurately, and conducting thorough statistical analyses. The role also involves merging survey data with system data to maintain accuracy and integrity in reporting. The Office of Survey Research and Analysis is dedicated to conducting major survey research concerning students, faculty, and staff at GW. This office is responsible for coordinating the development, distribution, and analysis of survey results, which support assessment and accreditation requirements as well as academic program reviews. The Senior Survey Research Analyst will independently conduct and manage survey research involving the GW population, focusing on aspects related to student education and services provided by the university. This includes overseeing all facets of research projects, from the development of online and paper surveys to data cleaning, dissemination, collection, and statistical analysis. In addition to managing survey projects, the Analyst will train staff and student employees on designing tables, graphs, and visualizations to present results clearly. They will summarize data for various university stakeholders, respond to research queries from other departments, and oversee the accuracy of research findings and reports produced by other staff members. The Analyst will also be responsible for training staff on survey platforms and business intelligence software, developing procedures for data collection and cleaning, and managing the university-wide online course evaluation process. This role requires a high level of attention to detail and the ability to work collaboratively with various departments within the university.

Responsibilities

  • Independently conduct and manage survey research of the GW population including undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and staff.
  • Manage all aspects of research projects including the development of online and paper surveys, data cleaning, dissemination and collection, scanning, coding, and statistical analysis of data.
  • Write statistical programs and determine appropriate statistical analyses of data.
  • Merge survey data with student records to create comprehensive databases and ensure data integrity through cleaning data sets.
  • Train staff and student employees to design tables, graphs, and visualizations to display results and data simply and straightforwardly.
  • Summarize data for use by deans, vice presidents/provosts, department chairs, and directors.
  • Respond to research queries from other GW departments and delegate these queries as needed.
  • Summarize research findings and write reports, overseeing and reviewing research findings and reports written by other staff.
  • Train staff on querying data and generating reports using statistical software and business intelligence software.
  • Develop procedures for and train staff on systematizing data collection and data cleaning for the office and collaborating offices.
  • Manage the University-wide online course evaluation process, including updating the website and training department administrators on the system.
  • Supervise and train work-study students and student assistants on coding data, using spreadsheets, graphic programs, content analysis, and designing surveys.
  • Monitor statistical output of graduate research assistants to ensure appropriate statistics are used and output is accurate.
  • Work cooperatively with the Academic Planning and Assessment and Office of Institutional Research and Planning, attending meetings and participating on committees as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 5 years of relevant professional experience, or a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 3 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.
  • Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may substitute for degree requirements.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of and experience with survey science research methods including focus groups and conducting content analyses of data.
  • Comprehensive understanding of statistical methods and the use of appropriate statistics.
  • Experience with software packages including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, SAS, Tableau, and Qualtrics.
  • Knowledge of relational databases.
