About the position

At Parsons, we are seeking a highly skilled System Administrator to join our Federal Solutions team. This role is pivotal in ensuring the operability and performance of our data center environments, with a strong emphasis on hardware management, power consumption, and system security. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in troubleshooting hardware/software interfaces and interoperability issues, conducting functional and connectivity testing, and managing virtualized solutions on established hardware. You will be responsible for developing and documenting standard operating procedures for systems administration, maintaining baseline system security, and managing user accounts and network rights. Additionally, you will plan, execute, and verify data redundancy and system recovery procedures, ensuring that our systems are resilient and secure. In this position, you will install, update, and troubleshoot systems and servers, complying with organizational policies and procedures. You will also implement and enforce local network usage policies, manage system and server resources, and perform repairs on faulty hardware. Your expertise will be crucial in monitoring and maintaining system configurations, ensuring optimal performance and availability. This role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to delivering high-quality service to our clients. Responsibilities

  • Expertise in working with hardware in data center environments, focusing on power consumption, rack mounted servers, cooling solutions, storage management, and hot swaps.
  • Troubleshoot hardware/software interface and interoperability problems.
  • Conduct functional and connectivity testing to ensure continuing operability.
  • Performance management of virtualized solutions on established hardware.
  • Develop and document systems administration standard operating procedures.
  • Maintain baseline system security according to organizational policies.
  • Manage accounts, network rights, and access to systems and equipment.
  • Plan, execute, and verify data redundancy and system recovery procedures.
  • Install, update, and troubleshoot systems and servers.
  • Comply with organization systems administration standard operating procedures.
  • Implement and enforce local network usage policies and procedures.
  • Manage system and server resources including performance, capacity, availability, serviceability, and recoverability.
  • Monitor and maintain system and server configurations.
  • Perform repairs on faulty system and server hardware.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline and 15 years' experience as a System Administrator, OR High school diploma and 20 years' experience as a System Administrator.
  • Experience with both Windows and Linux, preferably with Linux RHEL 8.
  • Windows and Linux patching, hot swaps, storage management.
  • Virtualization experience working with VMware / OpenStack / OpenShift.
  • Networking experience including Switch- VLAN setup and VMware virtual NIC configuration for isolation.
  • Hardware and Operating System troubleshooting skills.
  • STIG hardening recommendations knowledge.
  • Understanding of project design within the scope of security (RMF) requirements.
  • Active DoD IAT Level II certification (e.g. CCNA-Security, CySA+, GICSP, GSEC, Security+ CE, CND, SSCP).
  • Ability to demonstrate cyber/IT related experience with attention to detail, customer service, oral and written communication, and problem solving.

Nice-to-haves

  • Data center operations experience.
  • AWS Cloud or Azure Cloud experience and cloud resource administration.
  • In-depth knowledge of Linux RHEL 8 security and operating overhead to streamline performance.
  • Extensive virtualization management, architectural understanding, and performance behaviors.
  • Kubernetes administration, installation, maintenance, and tuning.
