About the position

The Senior System Administrator at SAIC is responsible for the operational maintenance, support, and upgrades of complex operating systems, workstations, and servers. This role involves coordinating software installations, monitoring system performance, ensuring data integrity, and implementing backup solutions. The position requires collaboration with Network and Systems Analysts to develop and implement new standards and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Perform high-level, day-to-day operational maintenance, support, and upgrades for complex operating systems, workstations, and servers.
  • Coordinate, direct, and perform complex software installations and upgrades to operating systems and layered software packages.
  • Schedule installations and upgrades and maintain them in accordance with established IT policies and procedures.
  • Monitor and tune multiple systems to achieve optimum performance levels.
  • Ensure workstation/server data integrity by evaluating, implementing, and managing appropriate software and hardware solutions.
  • Develop and implement a schedule of system backups and database archive operations to ensure data/media recoverability.
  • Plan and implement the modernization of servers.
  • Conduct hardware and software audits of workstations and servers to ensure compliance with established standards, policies, and configuration guidelines.
  • Develop and implement new standards, policies, and procedures in collaboration with Network and Systems Analysts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and five (5) years or more experience.
  • IAT Level II (CompTIA Sec+ or equivalent) Certification.
  • Ability to obtain SECRET level clearance.
  • Experience managing Windows Enterprise or Enclave environments.
  • Experience with Enterprise Backup Solutions (Dell EMC/NetWorker, Azure, Barracuda, etc.) in Research and Development/Engineering Environments.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Software/troubleshooting.
