About the position

In this role, you will support customers by designing, implementing, and managing lab infrastructure to meet their requirements. You will be responsible for building, configuring, administering, and troubleshooting Linux servers and user workstation hardware and software. Additionally, you will design and implement workgroup-scale networks and manage authentication, file-share, and other collaboration servers to support diverse client systems. You will collaborate with cyber security staff to develop and apply hardening steps for systems used in classified environments, adhering to ICD-503 security controls and other customer standards. Documenting system configurations for both new and existing systems will be a key part of your responsibilities. The role requires a proactive approach to maintaining and developing all Linux infrastructure technology to ensure 24/7 uptime service. You will engineer systems administration-related solutions for various project and operational needs, maintain best practices across all environments, and conduct fault finding and performance analysis. Your responsibilities will also include monitoring system performance, capacity planning, managing software upgrades, and creating scripts or applications to automate tasks. You will work closely with other teams to develop automation strategies and deployment processes. This position requires full-time onsite work due to the need for consistent in-person collaboration. Candidates must have US citizenship status due to government contract requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Build, configure, administer, and troubleshoot Linux servers and user workstation hardware and software.
  • Design and implement workgroup-scale networks.
  • Manage authentication, file-share, and other collaboration servers to support heterogeneous client systems.
  • Collaborate with cyber security staff to develop and apply hardening steps for classified systems.
  • Document system configuration for new and existing systems.
  • Proactively maintain and develop all Linux infrastructure technology to ensure 24/7 uptime service.
  • Engineer systems administration-related solutions for various project and operational needs.
  • Maintain best practices on managing systems and services across all environments.
  • Conduct fault finding and performance analysis of logging information.
  • Proactively monitor system performance and capacity planning.
  • Manage, coordinate, and implement software upgrades, patches, and hot fixes on servers, workstations, and network hardware.
  • Create and modify scripts or applications to perform tasks.
  • Provide input on ways to improve the stability, security, efficiency, and scalability of the environment.
  • Collaborate with other teams to develop automation strategies and deployment processes.

Requirements

  • Must have a Top Secret/SCI security clearance.
  • Typically a bachelor's degree in computer science or information technology.
  • 5 years of experience as a Linux Administrator.
  • In-depth knowledge of Linux distributions such as RedHat, CentOS, and Debian.
  • Familiarity with VMWare and virtualization concepts, Docker or Podman Containers.
  • Experience with shell, Perl, and/or Python scripting.
  • Solid knowledge of protocols such as DNS, HTTP, LDAP, SMTP, and SNMP.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work well as a team member and independently.
  • Knowledge of existing virtual machine and cloud technologies.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with enterprise-level Windows Server operating environments, including Windows Active Directory and Group Policy Management.
  • Experience with monitoring solutions like ELK Stack.
  • Familiarity with Amazon Web Services (AWS): EC2, S3, and EFS storage.
  • Experience with DevOps and/or DevSecOps practices.
  • Knowledge of encrypted communications and information security policies.
