About the position

The Systems Architect position at the Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) C4ISR Systems Division involves developing complex architectures and setting technical vision for a multidisciplinary team. The role requires close collaboration with government partners on significant defense programs, focusing on innovative solutions in systems engineering, data science, and cybersecurity. The position emphasizes teamwork and problem-solving to enhance national defense capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Designs and refines complex system architectures, integrating sensors, networks, data processing, and analysis tools into a cohesive solution.
  • Leads a multidisciplinary team of engineers (Systems, Hardware, Software, Cloud, and Cyber) to deliver high-quality, integrated systems.
  • Works closely with government partners and other decision-makers to ensure system designs meet operational and strategic needs.
  • Identifies and mitigates technical risks throughout the development lifecycle, ensuring successful system transitions to the operational environment.
  • Guides the development of system requirements, performs architecture analysis, and provides integration and test support for mission-critical programs.
  • Works alongside cyber analysts to design secure, resilient systems that meet operational and security standards.
  • Analyzes and integrates with external data management systems and operational interfaces.
  • Leads efforts to incorporate AI/ML solutions into system performance optimization and data analysis workflows.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) disciplines.
  • At least 15 years of experience in systems architecture and engineering.
  • Proven experience designing and developing complex, integrated systems, including hardware, software, and cybersecurity components.
  • Demonstrated ability to align system architectures with strategic objectives and customer needs.
  • Expertise in developing system architectures for complex, multi-layered systems-of-systems.
  • Experience in systems engineering, focusing on ensuring cyber resilience and integrating new technologies into existing systems.
  • Must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain a US Government security clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in DoD-related projects and understanding of Systems-of-Systems (SoS) engineering methodologies.
  • Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), Requirements Creation, and Digital Twins.
  • Experience with integrating cybersecurity into operational technologies.
  • Familiarity with the Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DoDAF) and Unified Architecture Framework (UAF).
  • Master's or PhD in a related STEM field.
  • Active DoD Top Secret clearance preferred.
