About the position

The Senior Systems Administrator (Linux Team Lead) at GovCIO is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of computer systems, including both hardware and software components, in various configurations. This role involves maintaining system integrity, upgrading systems, and implementing changes to improve network and system operations. The position requires collaboration with support teams and customers to resolve technical issues and enhance system performance. The role is fully remote and requires a proactive approach to system administration and security measures.

Responsibilities

• Establish and maintain smooth operation of computer systems, including operating systems, software, and hardware.
• Maintain system integrity and upgrade systems and/or servers as required.
• Create and document new methods supporting network/system operations and implement changes to procedures.
• Consult with support teams, help desks, customers, and other technical staff in problem resolution.
• Coordinate and perform operation and/or maintenance activities for networks/servers.
• Identify recurring problems and recommend steps to reduce their severity or frequency.
• Plan for the transition of development and/or production environments to new technologies.
• Utilize system software to monitor the performance of system files and manage system data for performance efficiencies.
• Study system requirements to determine proper server installation methods and procedures.
• Maintain and administer computer networks and related computing environments.
• Plan, coordinate, and implement network/system security measures to protect data, software, and hardware.
• Provide regular monitoring and analysis for short and long-range planning for in-house systems.
• Prepare and ensure appropriate documentation exists, including operational instructions.
• Write or modify basic scripts to resolve performance problems and automate administration tasks.
• Recommend changes to improve systems and network configurations.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree with 8+ years of experience or commensurate experience.
• Ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance.
