About the position

The Senior Systems Administrator (Linux Team Lead) at GovCIO is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of computer systems, including both hardware and software components, in a networked or stand-alone environment. This role involves maintaining system integrity, upgrading systems, and implementing changes to improve network/system operations. The position requires collaboration with various technical teams to resolve issues and enhance system performance, while also planning for transitions to new technologies. This is a fully remote position.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain smooth operation of computer systems, including operating systems, software, and hardware.
  • Create and document new methods supporting network/system operations and implement changes to procedures.
  • Consult with support teams, help desks, customers, and other technical staff to resolve problems.
  • Coordinate and perform operation and/or maintenance activities for networks/servers.
  • Identify recurring problems and recommend steps to reduce their severity or frequency.
  • Plan for the transition of development and/or production environments to new technologies.
  • Utilize system software to monitor the performance of system files and manage system data.
  • Study system requirements to determine proper server installation methods and procedures.
  • Maintain and administer computer networks and related computing environments.
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement network/system security measures to protect data, software, and hardware.
  • Provide regular monitoring and analysis regarding short and long-range planning for in-house systems.
  • Prepare and ensure appropriate documentation exists, including operational instructions.
  • Write or modify basic scripts to resolve performance problems and automate administration tasks.
  • Recommend changes to improve systems and network configurations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with 8+ years of experience or commensurate experience.
  • Ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance.
