About the position

The Senior Systems Administrator at SUNY Oneonta's IT Services unit plays a crucial role in supporting and maintaining the university's critical infrastructure and applications. This position is responsible for coordinating activities related to university systems, including card access control systems, and ensuring a robust computing environment for the university community. The role requires collaboration with various departments and third-party vendors to provide effective IT services.

Responsibilities

  • Securely configure, manage and support Microsoft Windows servers, SQL database services, and third-party integrations.
  • Collaborate and coordinate activities with university departments including Networking & Telecommunications, Facilities Management and Maintenance, the ID Card office, University Police, and Residence Life & Housing.
  • Manage relationships and Service Level Agreements with third-party vendors.
  • Provide tier 2 support to the IT Service Desk and other front-facing entities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 3-5 years of experience maintaining Microsoft Windows servers and SQL Services.
  • Proven experience in integration and automation for user account provisioning, de-provisioning, and access assignment, including working with various departments and vendors.
  • Experience configuring and supporting device configurations, accounts and other related tasks.
  • Ability to maintain contracts, SLAs, and communication with third-party vendors, ensuring smooth operations and timely updates.
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills to resolve complex issues, including hardware and software problems.
  • Demonstrated exceptional written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a diverse team to accomplish university goals.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
