About the position

The Senior Systems Application Engineer at MMC is responsible for providing engineering support for internal and client-facing web applications across various operating systems, including Solaris, Oracle Linux, and Windows. This role involves collaboration with international teams and focuses on ensuring application availability, reliability, and stability while managing production system issues and security vulnerabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering support for web applications on Solaris, Oracle Linux, and Windows.
  • Collaborate with Solaris and Linux Server Administration, Cyber Security, and Network teams.
  • Participate in troubleshooting and security vulnerability management.
  • Ensure application availability, reliability, and stability.
  • Administer PROD and non-PROD application environments using UNIX commands.
  • Provide Tier III administrative support for operations and project needs.
  • Plan and perform major version upgrades of Application Servers like Tomcat and Apache Web Server.
  • Follow change control processes to support application releases.
  • Remediate application and software-related security vulnerabilities.
  • Analyze and fine-tune server parameters for better application performance.
  • Support operational excellence by identifying ongoing operational issues and root-cause analyses.
  • Partner with Problem Management on implementing Service Improvement Programs.
  • Create and maintain technical documents such as knowledge base articles and infrastructure diagrams.
  • Perform routine housekeeping and health monitoring.
  • Write Linux/UNIX Shell Scripts for monitoring and automating tasks.
  • Support and resolve issues related to application recycles, disk space, and SSL certificates.
  • Submit infrastructure-related requests such as DNS registration and SSL certificates.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Oracle Linux systems administration.
  • Hands-on experience in administering application servers in a corporate environment.
  • Working experience in public cloud AWS console management.
  • Solid understanding of Windows servers.
  • Good understanding of 3-tier or high availability application architecture.
  • Good understanding of network topology.
  • Knowledge of F5 Load Balancer, Firewalls, and DNS.
  • Familiarity with WebLogic and other related Web/App Servers.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with incident management and change management tools like ServiceNow.
  • Experience working in AWS hosting enterprise applications; Azure experience is a plus.
  • Experience in a global enterprise environment.
  • Documentation experience on application architecture of production environments.
  • Experience with application and server monitoring tools like AlertSite and App Dynamics.
  • Understanding of security vulnerabilities of web-based applications and their remediation techniques.
