Danfoss is seeking an experienced Senior Systems Engineer to join our Applications Design Center in Loves Park, IL. This role is pivotal in developing innovative customer solutions that address the pressing energy challenges of our generation. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with variable speed drives and electrification, enabling them to contribute to our goal of winning market share by effectively solving customer issues through a technical approach. In this role, you will be responsible for developing product solutions, including first-of-kind innovations, by leveraging our existing and planned portfolio. You will identify gaps in our offerings that are necessary to secure business with key accounts. Your responsibilities will also include performing proof of concept for technical solutions in preparation for commercialization, providing input to product teams regarding technical solutions and business cases, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure successful product applications at key accounts. You will interact directly with key customers to understand their requirements at a systems level and provide essential technical support. This position requires you to provide on-site support from business development through to the commissioning of first-of-kind systems. The role involves a travel requirement of approximately 15% within the region, allowing you to engage with customers and stakeholders directly.

Responsibilities

  • Develop product solutions, including first-of-kind solutions, utilizing the existing and planned portfolio and identifying portfolio gaps required to gain business with dream accounts.
  • Perform proof of concept of technical solutions in preparation for commercialization.
  • Provide input to Product Teams for commercialization on technical solutions and business cases.
  • Collaborate and hand off mature applications to After Sales Service.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to ensure successful product applications at key accounts.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with Product Management, Product Development, S/C, Customer Service, Product Teams, Sales, Business Development, Center of Excellence, and Customers.
  • Interact with key customers to understand their requirements at a systems level and provide technical support.
  • Provide on-site support to the customer from business development to commissioning of first-of-kind systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, or a similar field (BSEE, BSCpE, BSCS).
  • 10+ Years of relevant experience with variable speed drives and their application.
  • Deep curiosity about customers, technology, and product solutions.
  • Effective verbal communication skills and ability to explain complex technical models and theories.
  • Ability to connect with customers and team members.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • High motivation to make positive contributions to the team and business.

Nice-to-haves

  • Excellent Knowledge of IGBT/Power semiconductors, Power topologies, Analog Design/control electronics, Magnetics/filters.
  • Lab Experience with power supplies, oscilloscopes, meters, function generators, and experiment setup and measurement.
  • Working knowledge of Computer-aided engineering design tools, including MatLab, Pspice, and Ansys tool bench.
  • Deep understanding of the Danfoss product portfolio and applications at the systems level.
  • Experience developing drives, drive applications, and/or electrification applications.
  • Experience with UL61800-5-1, UL1741SB and/or UL9540.
  • Experience with industrial automation.
