About the position

The Senior Systems Engineer - Backup & Recovery will be responsible for developing and implementing Disaster Recovery and Backup infrastructure architecture. This role involves participating in projects and daily activities, acting as an escalation point within the Engineering team, and providing Subject Matter Expertise on core Backup as a Service (BaaS) and Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS) technologies. The position emphasizes superior customer service and collaboration with various internal teams to ensure the successful execution of backup and recovery solutions.

Responsibilities

• Participate in projects and daily activities to create and develop new Disaster Recovery and Backup infrastructure architecture.
• Act as an escalation point within the Engineering team and provide Subject Matter Expertise on core BaaS and/or DRaaS technologies.
• Provide clear and accurate customer communications regarding the status of their issues or concerns.
• Develop and execute processes and control systems for secure and available backup & recovery platforms.
• Complete assigned installs and implementation projects in a timely manner.
• Develop Infrastructure documentation reflecting the as-built information of the solution design.
• Communicate with Sales or project managers regarding assigned tasks to meet implementation deadlines.
• Participate in team on-call rotation and customer pre-test planning meetings.
• Coordinate with internal teams in preparation for events and customer Disaster Recovery exercises.
• Provide technical support during customer exercises and guide customers on best practices.

Requirements

• Five or more years of experience with data protection technologies and/or Disaster Recovery software such as Veeam Backup & Recovery, Commvault, Carbonite, Zerto, Avamar.
• Five or more years of experience in storage, network, and/or cloud-based technologies.
• Comprehensive understanding of IT infrastructure and ability to execute technical solutions.
• Good understanding of virtualization technologies like VMware ESX and Microsoft Hyper-V.
• Deep understanding of RTO and RPO relationships and how to meet customer requirements.
• Familiarity with access control models and network security.
• Basic understanding of IPv4 & IPv6, routing, switching, gateways, and subnets.
• Familiarity with protocols such as NFS, CIFS, Fibre Channel, and iSCSI.
• Experience with monitoring tools and SaaS applications.
• Experience in data life-cycle management with IT audit requirements.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Certifications in Backup and/or Recovery technologies (e.g., VMCE, VMCA, ZCP, VCP).
• Advanced use of Linux operating systems (e.g., Red Hat, CentOS, Ubuntu, SUSE).
• Automation and scripting experience (e.g., Ansible, PowerShell, Python).
• Three or more years' experience in a Managed Services Provider.
