About the position

The Senior Systems Engineer - Cloud FinOps and Automation at Marriott is a pivotal role that combines technical expertise with strategic oversight in managing cloud systems and applications. This position is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining cost-efficient cloud solutions that support both customer-facing and enterprise-facing products. The Senior Systems Engineer (SSE) will collaborate closely with various teams, including Application, Infrastructure, and Network, to analyze the existing cloud infrastructure and identify opportunities for cost optimization. This involves a thorough review of usage patterns, billing data, and cloud service utilization to develop and implement strategies aimed at reducing cloud service costs while ensuring high service quality and performance. In this role, the SSE will be instrumental in creating an innovative operating model that focuses on cost savings and optimization solutions across public cloud providers. The position requires a deep understanding of cloud technologies, particularly in IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS deployments on platforms such as AWS, Azure, and AliCloud. The SSE will also be responsible for managing multi-million-dollar accounts, driving efficiencies, and fostering a cost optimization mindset within the organization. The role demands a proactive approach to identifying cost trends and anomalies through the implementation of automated tools and the creation of financial and usage dashboards. The candidate will also provide technical leadership and governance for services related to Marriott's solution delivery, ensuring that cloud-based applications are designed with cost efficiency in mind. This includes collaborating with finance and business teams to align cloud spending with budgetary constraints and developing periodic utilization reports to provide visibility into performance, capacity, availability, and SLA management. The SSE will also mentor team members and lead the analysis of the current environment to identify deficiencies and propose effective solutions.
