About the position

The Senior Systems Engineer is a key member of a specialized team responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining advanced technical solutions across various core infrastructure technologies. This role focuses on ensuring optimal performance of systems, providing expert support, and mentoring other IT team members. The position requires a deep understanding of networking, storage, compute, messaging, mobility systems, and operational security, with a strong emphasis on cloud-based services.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement and manage systems including networks, storage, Exchange, physical and virtual servers, Active Directory and Group Policy, Certificate Services, authentication systems, and remote access and mobility systems.
  • Oversee and ensure the optimal performance of systems.
  • Perform frequent and long-term maintenance in addition to management of user facing tasks.
  • Provide expert level support through escalated technical support.
  • Act as mentor to other IT internal team members in the areas of network and system operations.
  • Prepare and distribute technical documentation for all assigned systems and projects involving processes, procedures, troubleshooting guides, training and change management logs.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with IT external customers, vendors and partners.
  • Participate in on-call rotation.
  • Some overtime and/or non-standard hours, and travel may be required.

Requirements

  • Expert proficiency in network and storage design and maintenance (Storage Area Network (SAN), Network Attached Storage (NAS)).
  • Expert proficiency in Active Directory architecture and complex administration.
  • Expert proficiency in cyber risk and system hardening techniques.
  • Solid working knowledge of encryption technologies (PKI, Cipher Suites, Certificate Authority, HSM).
  • Expert proficiency in design and implementation of IT infrastructure systems in large scale and complex Microsoft Windows-based enterprise environments.
  • Expert proficiency in a variety of systems, servers and protocols (VmWare, Windows Server, TCP/IP, DNS, and Active Directory).
  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge in IP networks (LAN/WAN, MPLS, VPN, VLAN, and Wi-Fi) design, engineering and management.
  • Ability to manage enterprise-wide technology infrastructure.
  • Ability to manage multiple infrastructure components.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) certification preferred and Information Technology Service Management (ITSM) ServiceNow preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Agile, KanBan or similar project methodologies.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Server and third-party software patch management.
  • Advanced knowledge of PowerShell development for system utilities, automation and administration.
  • Advanced knowledge of monitoring solutions (Orion, Splunk, vRealize Suite/Aria Operations).
  • Advanced knowledge of Enterprise backup software.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree and/or advanced degrees in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems or related field (preferred).
  • 7+ years of expert experience working with storage solutions (vSAN, NetApp, VAST Data preferred).
  • 5+ years in the capacity of System Engineer over Microsoft server systems.
  • 5+ years of experience designing, building, securing and managing virtualization technologies based on the VmWare stack (ESXi, vCenter).
  • 7+ years of systems analysis.
  • 5+ years of experience working with storage technologies.
