About the position

The Senior Systems Engineer at Northwestern Medicine is responsible for maintaining and integrating hardware systems and their operating systems within the organization's IT environment. This role involves monitoring, analyzing, and planning necessary upgrades to ensure system reliability and capacity to meet user needs. The position emphasizes technical leadership, customer service, effective communication, and strategic planning to support the organization's mission of transforming healthcare through innovative technology solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain solid technical competence for assigned services and systems while understanding the integration of all supported services and systems.
  • Provide technical leadership and support for computing systems and systems integration.
  • Conduct, analyze, recommend, and present performance and/or capacity analysis to assure systems reliability for current and/or future use.
  • Maintain a broad working knowledge of the full range of NMHC IT server/distributed systems.
  • Provide diagnostic skills and expertise to coordinate problem determination and solution across the NMHC server/distributed system IT environment.
  • Respond thoroughly and promptly to customer needs as defined in conjunction with customers.
  • Manage customer relationships and follow issues through to closure, including all aspects of customers.
  • Work effectively in supporting application teams with project and support activities.
  • Communicate clearly, responsively, and purposely with customers and team members.
  • Determine strategy and support system-to-network connectivity and interfacing to assure stable integration of the NMHC distributed system IT environment.
  • Review technology projects, analyze business requirements, recommend system changes, and implement system changes to address changing application requirements.
  • Provide technical leadership including the identification and implementation of NMHC best practice standards.
  • Develop project plans to direct technology activities in support of application projects or as independent work activities.
  • Establish and enforce standards, policies, and procedures for local area networks.
  • Participate in long- and short-range technology planning.
  • Lead ongoing processes to integrate vendor, manufacturer, and point-expertise technical knowledge into NMHC.
  • Seek to improve talents and skills consistent with overall IS direction.
  • Provide mentoring and act as a resource for others on the immediate team and application teams.
  • Focus on IS team success and promote collaborative efforts with others.
  • Provide on-call support as required.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in core discipline
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's in computer science or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in core discipline in the healthcare industry
