About the position

The Sr. Systems Engineer role within Disney Entertainment and ESPN Technology focuses on providing media transport solutions and content delivery infrastructure for Disney's streaming services. This position is integral to the architecture, integration, and sustainment of global content origin and distribution services, ensuring high-quality and efficient content flow across platforms like Hulu, Disney+, and ESPN+. The ideal candidate will be proactive and collaborative, contributing to the development of Disney's innovative global streaming ecosystem.

Responsibilities

  • Architect, deploy and provision content delivery infrastructure.
  • Conduct business and operational requirements gathering, providing detailed analysis and customizable technical solutions.
  • Lead proof-of-concept initiatives and develop roadmaps for new products and features.
  • Assist in training and evaluating technical staff.
  • Develop technology roadmaps and long-range planning to enhance content delivery capabilities.
  • Implement service monitoring tools and metrics to identify performance issues.
  • Provide operational and technical support through software/hardware upgrades and troubleshooting.
  • Engage with technical and business stakeholders to provide insights into emerging technologies.
  • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule.
  • Collaborate with multiple teams on interconnected deliverables.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of Linux systems administration experience.
  • BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent field.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.
  • Experience with HTTP webserving and content delivery (Apache, NGINX, Varnish).
  • Familiarity with complex network topology (Anycast, BGP, high-availability).
  • Comfortable with Infrastructure-as-Code tools (Ansible, Git, Salt).
  • Proficiency in at least one interpreted or compiled programming language (Bash, Python, Go, Rust).
  • Solid understanding of web security protocols (TLS, SSL).
  • Previous support for hybrid public/private environments.

  • Strong understanding of virtualization technologies.
  • Experience with enterprise-grade hardware & storage.
