About the position

At Collins Aerospace, our Mission Systems team plays a crucial role in supporting civilian, military, and government customers in completing their most complex missions. As a Senior Systems Engineering Manager in the Propulsion department, you will lead a dedicated team of Systems Engineers responsible for the systems definition of Propulsion platforms. This position requires a strong focus on accountability, as you will oversee the deliverables of your team to ensure they meet the program requirements, including cost and schedule constraints. Your leadership will be pivotal in fostering an environment that promotes efficiency, predictable execution, and employee engagement. In this role, you will be directly involved in the management of the engineering team, which includes hiring, career development, and mentoring. You will create strategies to define customer requirements that support platform development and interface with program management to ensure that technical goals are achieved. Your oversight will extend to ensuring that all procedures and processes are adhered to by your team, implementing best practices, and capturing lessons learned to drive continuous improvement. Additionally, you will support pursuit and order capture activities, including bidding and estimation efforts for new programs, while also taking on other duties as assigned. This position is not only about managing a team but also about being a part of a larger mission that impacts customers globally. Responsibilities

  • Direct management of the engineering team including hiring, career development, and mentoring.
  • Create strategies around customer requirement definition to support platform development.
  • Accountable for meeting program requirements including cost and schedule.
  • Interface with program management and program leads to assure technical goals are achieved.
  • Oversight of all procedures and processes being adhered to by the team.
  • Implement best practices and improve efficiency.
  • Responsible for capturing lessons learned and implementing corrective actions.
  • Support Pursuit & Order capture activities including bidding & estimation efforts for new programs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 2-4 years of experience in managing an engineering team and/or system leadership experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) with a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience, or an advanced degree with a minimum of 7 years of experience, or 14 years of relevant experience in absence of a degree.
  • U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee or asylee) or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) access.

Nice-to-haves

  • Strong experience with engineering management in a matrix organization.
  • Significant experience as Aerospace Systems and/or Propulsion Systems.
  • Experience with development for DoD customers.
  • Experience with Earned Value Management.
  • Experience with Agile Program Management.
  • Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and champions MBSE best practices.
