About the position

The Senior Manager, Talent Acquisition (Retail) at CarMax is a pivotal role responsible for managing and leading a team of Managers and Recruiters who support hiring for various positions including Customer Experience Centers (CEC), Management in Training (MIT), and Employment Centers, as well as providing critical field hiring support. This position plays a key role in driving initiatives that align with CarMax's long-term Talent Acquisition strategy. The Senior Manager will be instrumental in developing and executing a comprehensive field hiring strategy to meet both current and future talent needs. This involves continual research and the development of innovative strategies to build a robust talent pipeline across CarMax stores and CECs. In this role, the Senior Manager will lead a team of managers and recruiters, ensuring that the team fosters a strong development culture while effectively supporting the business's needs. Regular communication of business metrics and staffing efficiency to key stakeholders is essential, as is meeting with clients to understand their business strategies and prioritize sourcing and recruiting workloads. The Senior Manager will also proactively identify process improvements, gain buy-in from peers and leaders, and drive these solutions to completion. Collaboration with other teams, such as marketing, legal, and compensation, is crucial to ensure high-quality processes and candidate experiences. The Senior Manager will be responsible for holding direct reports accountable for meeting hiring goals and maintaining a high standard of customer service for candidates and internal clients. Engagement and development of the team will be a priority, including providing timely feedback, creating development plans, and facilitating learning opportunities. Additionally, the Senior Manager will oversee hiring for other talent acquisition-related initiatives and projects as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and lead a team of Managers and Recruiters supporting hiring for CEC, MIT, and Employment Centers.
  • Develop and execute a field hiring strategy to meet current and future talent needs.
  • Research and implement innovative strategies to build a talent pipeline across CarMax stores and CECs.
  • Provide regular business metrics and reporting to communicate staffing efficiency and effectiveness to stakeholders.
  • Meet with clients to understand their business strategies and prioritize sourcing and recruiting workloads.
  • Ensure clients receive effective and timely updates and assist recruiters in overcoming obstacles in finding talent.
  • Identify process improvements and drive solutions to completion with buy-in from peers and leaders.
  • Collaborate with other teams to ensure high-quality processes and candidate experiences.
  • Hold direct reports accountable for meeting hiring goals and maintaining high customer service standards.
  • Engage and develop the team through feedback, development plans, and learning opportunities.
  • Oversee hiring for other talent acquisition-related initiatives and projects as needed.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years management level experience required.
  • At least 5 years of Talent Acquisition experience, directly leading a team of recruiters or owning hiring.
  • Retail talent acquisition experience preferred.
  • Experience building a new function/team from the ground up or leading a cross-functional project or initiative required.
  • Demonstrated experience leading a large team or managing the business needs of multiple stakeholders required.
  • Proven success in leading teams directly or indirectly, including associate development and courageous leadership.
