About the position

Golden State Water Company is seeking a Senior Tax Accountant who will play a crucial role in preparing and reviewing the Company's income and non-income tax compliance reporting and accounting. This position is integral to ensuring that the company adheres to tax regulations while maintaining high standards of accuracy and thoroughness. The Senior Tax Accountant will collaborate closely with various departments, including Accounting, Finance, and Regulatory Affairs, to support the tax function effectively. The Senior Tax Accountant will be responsible for producing high-quality work products that reflect accuracy and thoroughness in the preparation and review of all tax types. This includes managing income tax provisions and related regulatory disclosures, overseeing all tax return filings and payments, and maintaining records for Property Plant and Equipment tax computations. The role also involves preparing tax projections and ensuring compliance with standardized processes and controls, particularly those related to SOX compliance. Continuous improvement of processes to enhance efficiency and accuracy is a key expectation of this role, which may involve leveraging technology tools effectively. In addition to technical skills, the Senior Tax Accountant must possess strong interpersonal skills, as they will work directly with accounting/finance teams, regulatory-affairs teams, outside advisors, and external auditors. The ability to identify and apply new tax laws promptly, conduct tax research, and prepare tax-related correspondence is essential. The successful candidate will be organized, detail-oriented, and capable of providing timely work products supported by well-organized documentation that adheres to Tax Department policies. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review the Company's income and non-income tax compliance reporting and accounting.
  • Produce high-quality work reflecting accuracy and thoroughness in tax-related matters.
  • Manage income tax provisions and related regulatory disclosures.
  • Oversee all tax return filings and payments, including income and non-income taxes.
  • Maintain records for Property Plant and Equipment tax computations.
  • Prepare tax projections and ensure adherence to standardized processes and controls.
  • Work with accounting/finance and regulatory-affairs teams, outside advisors, and external auditors.
  • Identify and apply new tax laws and perform tax research for compliance and planning.
  • Prepare and review tax-related correspondence.
  • Provide timely work products supported by organized documentation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Accounting or related discipline; Master's degree in Tax preferred.
  • Six years of experience performing corporate tax compliance and ASC 740 income tax provision.
  • Experience in federal and multi-state corporate income tax compliance including consolidated and combined returns.
  • Rate-regulated utility experience preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft applications, including advanced Excel skills.
  • Experience with income-tax-return-preparation applications and tax research applications.
  • Proficiency with tax modules in the PowerPlan suite of applications preferred.
  • Proficiency with One Source Income Tax RS preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Experience in rate-regulated utility environments.
