About the position

The Senior Tax Accountant Indirect Tax role at Emerson involves managing and ensuring compliance with state and local sales/use tax obligations. This position is crucial for identifying and implementing strategies to minimize the company's tax liabilities while defending against challenges from taxing authorities. The role requires collaboration with various divisions and involves preparing tax returns, managing audits, and providing legal research and training.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and review state and local sales/use tax returns for multiple operating divisions, ensuring timely and accurate filing.
• Assist in coordination and management of sales/use tax audits and work closely with division personnel and taxing authorities to achieve the lowest tax liability permissible.
• Provide legal research, consultation, and opinions regarding sales/use tax issues to the operating divisions.
• Work with tax team to transform data and automate processes related to the sales and use tax compliance.
• Serve as the focal point for coordinating system testing related to Oracle/SAP and Vertex patches, improvements, and upgrades.
• Prepare and provide sales tax training presentations for operating personnel.
• Prepare and file personal property tax returns and business license returns for major plant facilities and sales offices in assigned states.
• Handle miscellaneous sale and use tax responsibilities including exemption certificate review and maintenance, approving sales tax credits, and responding to sales tax notices and customer requests for sales tax refunds.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science/Arts in Accounting, Finance or Business required.
• Minimum 4 years with Public accounting and/or large corporation with multi-divisional, multi-state and multi-national structure.
• Legal authorization to work in the United States - sponsorship will not be provided for this role.
