About the position

The Senior Tax Accountant for Indirect Tax at Emerson is responsible for managing and ensuring compliance with state and local sales/use tax obligations across multiple operating divisions. This role involves preparing tax returns, coordinating audits, providing legal research, and automating tax compliance processes. The position also serves as a key point of contact for system testing related to tax software and provides training to operating personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and file state and local sales/use tax returns for multiple operating divisions, ensuring timely and accurate filing.
  • Assist in coordination and management of sales/use tax audits, working closely with division personnel and taxing authorities to minimize tax liability.
  • Provide legal research, consultation, and opinions regarding sales/use tax issues to operating divisions.
  • Collaborate with the tax team to transform data and automate processes related to sales and use tax compliance.
  • Coordinate system testing related to Oracle/SAP and Vertex patches, improvements, and upgrades.
  • Prepare and deliver sales tax training presentations for operating personnel.
  • Prepare and file personal property tax returns and business license returns for major plant facilities and sales offices in assigned states.
  • Manage miscellaneous sales and use tax responsibilities, including exemption certificate maintenance, approving sales tax credits, and responding to sales tax notices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science/Arts in Accounting, Finance or Business required.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in public accounting and/or large corporations with multi-divisional, multi-state, and multi-national structures.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States; sponsorship will not be provided.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of Vertex is a plus.
  • CPA or CMI certification.
