About the position

Bray & Associates NW, LLC is seeking a Senior Tax Accountant to join our dedicated team in West Linn, Oregon. This full-time position is ideal for a licensed CPA with a minimum of 8 years of recent experience in tax preparation, particularly within a CPA firm. The Senior Tax Accountant will play a crucial role in preparing and reviewing individual, partnership, and S-Corp tax returns, ensuring compliance with all relevant tax laws and regulations. The successful candidate will be expected to provide exceptional service with a personal touch, reflecting our commitment to client relationships and satisfaction. In this role, you will be responsible for reviewing tax returns prepared by junior staff members, delegating tasks, and managing the flow of projects to ensure timely completion. You will also prepare tax returns, with more complex cases assigned to experienced staff members. During the busy tax season from February to April, the ability to work extended hours is essential. Direct client interaction is a key component of this position, as you will be expected to develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, addressing their needs and concerns effectively. Additionally, you will propose adjusting journal entries, requiring a solid understanding of debits and credits, and work with trial balances. Proficiency in QuickBooks is necessary to assist clients with accounting transactions and bookkeeping corrections. Responding to tax notices and accurately recording time for hourly billing purposes are also part of your responsibilities. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, enabling them to explain complex tax issues in simplified terms, and will be detail-oriented and deadline-driven.

Responsibilities

  • Review tax returns prepared by junior staff members

Requirements

  • 8 or more years of tax preparation experience
  • Licensed CPA
  • Ability to manage and review the work of junior staff members
  • Experience with Lacerte, ProSystem fx, or other professional tax preparation software (preferred)
  • Proficiency in current computer accounting programs including Adobe PDF, Excel, and QuickBooks
  • Detail-oriented and deadline-driven
  • Strong writing skills and ability to explain complex issues in simplified language

Nice-to-haves

  • A small book of business and/or the desire to attract new business
  • Experience using Lacerte to prepare 2023 tax returns
  • Understanding of fiduciary and estate tax matters
