About the position

The Director of Tax at Quantum Health is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing and coordinating all tax-related activities for the organization and its subsidiaries. This includes the preparation of federal, state, and local income tax returns, ensuring compliance with various tax statutes, and managing the accounting for all tax activities. The Director will also be tasked with preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual tax provisions in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This position requires close collaboration with senior management and third-party service providers to establish and implement best practice tax strategies that align with the company's goals. In this role, the Director of Tax will prepare not only income tax returns but also non-income related tax returns such as sales and use, property, and tax incentive reports. The Director will oversee daily tax accounting transactions, coordinate audits with taxing authorities, and maintain a robust system of policies and procedures to ensure appropriate internal controls are in place. Additionally, the Director will work with senior management and external advisors to secure economic and job incentives available to the company, ensuring these programs are effectively managed. The role may also involve supporting mergers and acquisitions as necessary, along with other duties as assigned. The ideal candidate will possess a strong educational background, including a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance, with a Master's Degree in Business Taxation preferred. A JD or CPA designation is also preferred. Candidates should have at least 7 years of experience in tax preparation and reporting, either through managing public company tax functions or in public accounting serving public clients. Experience with GAAP compliant tax provisions and coordinating with external tax service providers is essential. Familiarity with Sage Intacct Accounting and Workday Adaptive systems is a plus. The Director of Tax must demonstrate strong administrative and technical skills, be comfortable using Microsoft Office applications, and maintain a high level of confidentiality and accountability in handling sensitive information.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare federal, state, and local income tax returns, including all related analysis and support.
  • Responsible for the preparation of non-income related tax returns/reports, such as sales and use, property, and tax incentive returns/reports.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual tax provision calculations in accordance with GAAP, including coordinating reviews with the company's external financial auditors.
  • Oversee the daily tax accounting transactions (income, sales, use, and other - Federal, state, and other local taxes).
  • Coordinate audits of taxing authorities for various federal, state, and local filings.
  • Maintain a system of policies and procedures and ensure that appropriate internal controls are in place over accounting for income taxes and indirect taxes.
  • Coordinate with senior management and external advisors to establish and maintain best practice tax strategies at the federal, state, and local levels.
  • Coordinate with senior management and external advisors to secure economic and job incentives available to the company, and ensure programs are properly managed.
  • Support M&A activities as necessary.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance; Master's Degree in Business Taxation preferred.
  • JD or CPA preferred.
  • 7+ years of experience in managing public company tax preparation/reporting or public accounting serving public clients.
  • Experience preparing GAAP compliant tax provisions.
  • Experience coordinating and managing external tax service providers.
  • Experience building tax strategies, including coordinating with senior management and internal/external legal counsel on entity structure.
  • Experience with Sage Intacct Accounting and Workday Adaptive (Financial Reporting & Forecasting) systems is a plus.
  • Strong administrative/technical skills; comfort working on a PC using Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), IM/video conferencing (Teams & Zoom), and telephones efficiently.
  • Trustworthy and accountable behavior, capable of viewing and maintaining confidential information daily.
