About the position

The Senior Technical Architect at SMX is a hands-on solutions architect specializing in cloud technology with a focus on the Defense sector. This role involves designing innovative cloud solutions, managing operational efficiency, and supporting sales engagements. The architect will work closely with internal stakeholders and customers to bridge the gap between technical capabilities and customer needs, while also contributing to process improvements and DevSecOps methodologies. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with a strong technical background and experience in navigating complex requirements within the Defense industry.

Responsibilities

• Drive the growth of cloud business by designing and supporting technical solutions.
• Manage essential reporting and administrative tasks, including maintaining the sales pipeline.
• Support bi-weekly and quarterly reporting, tracking progress against specific goals.
• Contribute to advancing development practices focusing on process improvements and DevSecOps methodologies.
• Lead consulting and planning efforts through customer problem solving and solutioning phases.
• Participate in customer advisory and capture activities, including workshops and proposal development.
• Collaborate with product and business owners to understand business requirements and provide guidance on solution architecture.
• Define reference architectures and build guidance around best practices and usage recommendations.
• Guide and support technology implementations, including development, configuration, and governance controls.
• Support the development of account plans to build long-term relationships with customers and identify new opportunities.

Requirements

• Ability to obtain a DoD security clearance requiring US citizenship for work on DoD contracts.
• Experience designing, migrating, or delivering complex cloud solutions balancing costs, security, and risk.
• Experience leading or supporting multi-stream cloud transformation programs for mid and large-scale organizations.
• Experience with modern development and testing techniques such as continuous delivery and continuous integration.
• Strong technical writing and proposal writing skills.
• Ability to prioritize tasks, adapt, and self-motivate.
• Achieve and maintain Public Cloud Professional level certifications (e.g., AWS SA Professional, Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect Expert).

Nice-to-haves

• Government client experience including classified environments and support.
• 10+ years of broad IT and Cloud technical experience.
• Big4 or equivalent consulting experience highly desired.
• Proven ability to articulate complex problems and solutions in a simple manner.
• Well-versed with current trends in cloud computing technologies.
