The Senior Technical Manager Control Systems - Hardware at Metro-North Railroad is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing the hardware infrastructure of mission-critical control systems. This position entails designing, implementing, analyzing, and maintaining operational environments for all control systems, ensuring their reliability and efficiency. The manager will also be tasked with developing strategic plans for emergency recovery of critical systems such as Centralized Traffic Control (CTC), Positive Train Control (PTC), and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA). This role is essential in maintaining the integrity and availability of hardware resources, ensuring that all systems operate smoothly and securely. In this capacity, the Senior Technical Manager will perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware and server resources. This includes reviewing system and application logs, ensuring the completion of scheduled jobs like backups, and adhering to security recommendations and best practices. The manager will also oversee the Communication & Signal Department services, including significant projects like SCADA upgrades and PTC implementations, providing leadership in engineering and designing hardware solutions. The role requires a proactive approach to security, necessitating regular monitoring for potential intrusions and the development of security policies for control systems. The manager will be responsible for applying OS patches, upgrading administrative tools, and configuring new services as needed. Additionally, the position involves performance reporting to support capacity planning and ongoing performance tuning of control systems. A key aspect of this role is team management, where the Senior Technical Manager will select, develop, and motivate staff, providing career development opportunities and fostering a professional environment that respects individual differences.
