About the position

Mosaic AI, a part of Databricks since July 2023, is dedicated to enabling companies to create state-of-the-art AI models from their own data. The Senior Technical Program Manager (TPM) role is pivotal in ensuring that compute resources are allocated effectively based on product, sales, and research priorities. This position will lead strategic initiatives aimed at optimizing GPU utilization and procurement, which are critical for driving innovation and delivering high-quality products. The TPM will work closely with various teams, including finance, sales, research, engineering, and product management, to define, plan, and execute AI initiatives that align with the company's revenue and research goals. The successful candidate will be responsible for establishing and maintaining effective communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, providing regular project updates, status reports, and presentations. They will also be tasked with delivering improvements in compute management, efficiency, and scalability by identifying and implementing process enhancements. The role requires a strong background in resource management, forecasting, capacity planning, and strategic planning, with a focus on cross-team negotiations and customer impact. In this role, the TPM will drive strategic initiatives to optimize GPU utilization and procurement, develop a GPU resource allocation strategy, and build analytics and reporting systems to track resource consumption. They will negotiate and manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including C-level executives, to secure necessary GPU resources and ensure timely delivery of high-quality products. Staying updated with the latest GPU technology trends will also be essential to drive innovation in products and services.

Responsibilities

  • Drive strategic initiatives to optimize GPU utilization and procurement, including financial analysis and legal considerations.
  • Develop and implement a GPU resource allocation strategy that aligns with revenue and research priorities.
  • Build and maintain compute resource analytics and reporting.
  • Collaborate with finance, sales, research, engineering, product management, and other teams to define, plan, and deliver on our AI initiatives.
  • Negotiate and manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including C-level executives, to secure GPU resources and drive strategic AI initiatives.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest GPU technology trends and apply this knowledge to drive innovation in our products and services.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication with stakeholders, including regular project updates, status reports, and presentations.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and scalability.
  • Ensure timely delivery of high-quality products by driving project execution and managing risks.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of technical program management experience, with a focus on cross team negotiations, resource management, customer impact and strategic planning.
  • Proven track record of leading cross-functional teams to deliver complex technical projects on time and with high quality.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and analytical skills, with the ability to get to resolution with C-level executives and identify key tradeoffs between business objectives using data.
  • Ability to build and maintain analytics to track, forecast, and visualize consumption through ad-hoc SQL, reports, and dashboards.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently, as well as in a team environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Good working knowledge of GPU technology and its applications in generative AI and machine learning.
  • Familiarity with big data technologies such as Apache Spark, Delta Lake, and MLflow is a plus.
  • Experience with compute capacity management, as well as financial analysis or sales/deal desk quoting, is a plus.
