About the position

The Senior Technical Project Manager at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) is responsible for leading strategic initiatives within the Computing and Information Technology Directorate. This role focuses on managing complex, cross-functional projects aimed at modernizing business applications in Human Resources and Finance, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and delivering high-quality outcomes. The position requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including business partners and Agile delivery teams, to enhance the research experience and drive digital transformation efforts at the laboratory.

Responsibilities

  • Manage large projects with significant complexity, including cross-functional team engagement and diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Promote project management best practices and demonstrate strong leadership in applying Agile methodologies.
  • Apply and improve PMO project management Toolkit practices to meet high Laboratory standards.
  • Lead teams towards strategic solutions by partnering with Digital Platform Managers.
  • Collaborate with Change Management to define implementation methods for effective change.
  • Engage with staff and leadership for feedback to improve processes and support sustainability of solutions.
  • Drive and influence Agile practices with technical and business partner teams.
  • Guide, coach, and mentor Agile delivery team members and peer Project Managers.
  • Manage project plan development, build cohesive teams, and champion continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication and presentation skills while managing multiple initiatives.
  • Drive and track interdependencies across digital platforms and assist with maintaining team metrics.
  • Assess and mitigate project risks and develop contingency plans.
  • Build trusted partnerships with senior leadership to resolve challenges and escalations.
  • Negotiate with stakeholders around scope and priority.
  • Manage project budgets and evaluate performance for early warnings of issues.

Requirements

  • BS/BA and 11+ years of relevant project management experience -OR- MS/MA or higher and 9+ years of relevant project management experience.
  • Proven track record managing multiple complex projects, preferably involving ERP business transformation.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, collaboration, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Extensive experience in leadership and management oversight on large and/or highly complex projects.
  • Ability to facilitate negotiations between stakeholders and sponsors around scope and priority.
  • Strong customer focus with ability to interpret and analyze customer requirements.
  • Knowledge and experience with Agile practices.

Nice-to-haves

  • Proven record of multiple successful ERP implementations.
  • 8 years or more of experience implementing software using Agile methodologies.
  • 8 years or more of experience working with software development lifecycle models.
  • Experience with Human-Centered Design and/or Design Thinking.
  • Holds a current Agile certification: PMI-ACP, CSP, CSPO, CSM, or equivalent.
