About the position

The Technical Project Manager at Lumen is responsible for the coordination, scheduling, status, and delivery of internally initiated initiatives. This role requires interfacing with internal Planning and Deployment teams to ensure that project entrance and exit criteria are met, driving the prioritization of projects, and ensuring efficient resource utilization while forecasting savings. The Technical Project Manager will also work closely with various contract entities responsible for performing critical tasks and driving results. A key aspect of this role is the proactive identification of risks related to scope, resource constraints, and process breakdowns, ensuring that projects are delivered on time and within budget. In this position, the Technical Project Manager will coordinate projects focused on consolidating or exiting cabinets, cages, full sites, and leased fibers. They will need to understand and communicate project scope effectively, ensuring that program milestones and objectives are met. The role involves organizing cross-functional activities to ensure project completion within budget constraints and managing resources to execute project components from handoff through implementation. Additionally, the Technical Project Manager will provide reporting and metrics from multiple systems and databases, utilizing specific knowledge about technical areas to research, plan, communicate, and achieve objectives through the project team. The Technical Project Manager will also be responsible for identifying issues within projects and working through resolutions, either by altering plans or escalating appropriately. This position is fully remote, allowing for flexibility in work arrangements while contributing to Lumen's mission of connecting the world and igniting business growth.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates projects focused on consolidating or exiting cabinets, cages, full sites, and leased fibers.
  • Understands and communicates project scope and ensures program milestones and objectives are met.
  • Organizes cross-functional activities, ensuring completion of the project within budget constraints.
  • Plans and manages resources to execute project components from project handoff through implementation.
  • Provides reporting and metrics from multiple systems and databases.
  • Uses specific knowledge about one or more technical areas to research, plan, communicate and achieve objectives through program/project team.
  • Identifies issues within a project and works through resolutions, either by altering plans or escalating appropriately.

Requirements

  • Consulting Level Bachelor's degree, typically with 6+ years of experience, or 4+ years of experience with a Master's Degree.
  • Field of Study: Telecom or Project Management.
  • Ability to adapt and adjust to changing priorities and coordination of multiple projects.
  • Ability to assess and implement risk management to mitigate schedule impacts.
  • Demonstrated initiative and drive within a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, Visio).
  • Attention to detail with good organizational capabilities.
  • Ability to prioritize with good time management skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous technical experience highly desired, especially in DWDM and SONET.
  • PMP/PMI Certification a plus, but not required.
