About the position

Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is seeking a talented Senior Technical Writer to join our Veterans Affairs (VA) department. This full-time position is designed for experienced professionals who are adept at writing, editing, and publishing a variety of technical documents. The Senior Technical Writer will be responsible for gathering, analyzing, and composing technical information necessary for the preparation of user manuals, training materials, installation guides, proposals, and reports. The role requires a keen eye for detail and the ability to translate complex technical information into clear, readable documents suitable for both technical and non-technical personnel. In this position, the Senior Technical Writer will conduct thorough research to ensure the use of proper technical terminology and will edit functional descriptions, system specifications, user manuals, and special reports. The successful candidate will work closely with multiple stakeholders who may have competing priorities, necessitating outstanding communication skills and the ability to manage time effectively. This role is critical in ensuring that all customer deliverables and documents meet the highest standards of quality and clarity. This is a 100% U.S. based remote position with the potential for travel, contingent upon contract award. Candidates must possess or qualify for a Public Trust (NACI) security clearance and U.S. Citizenship is required for this specific opportunity. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in technical writing, particularly within the context of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Responsibilities

  • Write, edit, and publish reports and technical documents.
  • Gather, analyze, and compose technical information required for preparation of user manuals, training materials, installation guides, proposals, reports, etc.
  • Edit functional descriptions, system specifications, user manuals, special reports, or any other customer deliverables and documents.
  • Conduct research and ensure the use of proper technical terminology.
  • Translate technical information into clear, readable documents to be used by technical and non-technical personnel.

Requirements

  • Outstanding communication skills.
  • An ability to work with multiple stakeholders who may have competing priorities.
  • Experience writing, editing, and publishing reports and technical documents.
  • Strong experience with computer-based systems.
  • Eight (8) years of professional experience.
  • BA/BS degree in a relevant field.
  • U.S. Citizenship required for this specific opportunity.
  • Must possess or qualify for a Public Trust (NACI) security clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) highly preferred.
