About the position

Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is seeking a talented Senior Technical Writer to join our Veterans Affairs (VA) department. This full-time position is designed for experienced professionals who are adept at writing, editing, and publishing a variety of technical documents. The successful candidate will be responsible for gathering, analyzing, and composing technical information necessary for the preparation of user manuals, training materials, installation guides, proposals, reports, and other customer deliverables. The role requires a keen eye for detail and the ability to translate complex technical information into clear, readable documents suitable for both technical and non-technical personnel. In this position, you will conduct thorough research to ensure the use of proper technical terminology and maintain high standards of quality in all written materials. You will work closely with multiple stakeholders, balancing competing priorities while ensuring that all documentation meets the needs of the end-users. Your outstanding communication skills will be essential in collaborating with various teams and ensuring that all technical documents are accurate and user-friendly. This role is fully remote, allowing for flexibility in your work environment, but it may require occasional travel. The position is contingent upon contract award, and candidates must possess or qualify for a Public Trust (NACI) security clearance. U.S. Citizenship is a requirement for this opportunity, and applicants will undergo a government security investigation as part of the hiring process.

Responsibilities

  • Write, edit, and publish reports and technical documents.
  • Gather, analyze, and compose technical information required for preparation of user manuals, training materials, installation guides, proposals, reports, etc.
  • Edit functional descriptions, system specifications, user manuals, special reports, or any other customer deliverables and documents.
  • Conduct research and ensure the use of proper technical terminology.
  • Translate technical information into clear, readable documents to be used by technical and non-technical personnel.

Requirements

  • Outstanding communication skills.
  • An ability to work with multiple stakeholders who may have competing priorities.
  • Experience writing, editing, and publishing reports and technical documents.
  • Strong experience with computer-based systems.
  • Eight (8) years of professional experience.
  • BA/BS degree in a relevant field.
  • U.S. Citizenship required for this specific opportunity.
  • Must possess or qualify for a Public Trust (NACI) security clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) highly preferred.
