About the position

The Senior Technical Writer at Postman will be responsible for creating and maintaining technical documentation that assists users in designing, building, and testing API projects. This role involves collaborating with engineers and product managers to understand features, conducting hands-on experimentation, and delivering high-quality documentation that serves a diverse user base, from experienced software engineers to novices. The position also includes mentoring other writers and conducting editorial reviews to enhance the overall quality of documentation.

Responsibilities

• Own the documentation for a dedicated feature set of the Postman product.
• Plan documentation in conjunction with product release cycles by collaborating with engineers and product managers.
• Conduct editorial reviews on teammates' drafts and provide constructive feedback.
• Deliver high-quality, accurate documentation that aligns with content strategy guidelines.
• Liaise with stakeholders across the company to establish and address documentation needs.
• Mentor other writers on processes and best practices for developing documentation.

Requirements

• Minimum Bachelor's degree plus 7+ years of technical writing or related field experience.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to adapt to shifting priorities.
• User empathy gained from experience in tech support or customer-facing roles.
• Strong communication skills demonstrated through previous technical writing or tutorials.
• Self-directed learner with curiosity about tech skills and development workflows.
• Experience using and documenting SaaS products.
• Comfortable working in a distributed team across multiple time zones.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with the Docs as Code/Docs like Code approach to documentation.
• Familiarity with writing Markdown-based content.
• Experience working in an Agile environment.
• Knowledge of source control systems, especially Git.
