THOR Solutions is actively seeking a Senior Technical Writer with experience in the marine industry to support the USCG Ship Design Team in Washington, DC. The ideal candidate will be a motivated self-starter with demonstrated experience in technical writing and editing. Proficiency with common productivity software is essential, along with a strong familiarity with U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Navy naval engineering terminology and methodology. This position requires the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to ensure that all topics are properly addressed during the specification development process. The candidate will be responsible for preparing, reviewing, revising, and maintaining technical documents related to shipboard and marine use, including Contract Data Requirements List (CDRL), specifications, and Statements of Work (SOW). Additionally, the role involves analyzing, interpreting, and cross-checking information to ensure accuracy, as well as developing and publishing technical publications to support the Coast Guard. The work environment is hybrid, requiring the candidate to be onsite at the USCG Headquarters in Washington, DC for approximately 2-3 days a week, with the remainder of the time being flexible or telework. The position may require additional onsite days based on contract and customer requirements. Due to the nature of the federal contract, U.S. citizenship is required, and candidates must either possess or be eligible for a DoD Secret security clearance. The role involves desk and computer work in an office environment, which may include repetitive motion activities. Candidates should have a Bachelor's degree in Technical Writing or a relevant discipline, or equivalent experience in a marine or defense environment. A minimum of six years of recent, relevant experience in writing and reviewing technical documents is required, with a preference for experience in a marine or defense context. Expert knowledge of industry-standard desktop publishing and word processing software, including Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat, is also necessary. Excellent communication skills are essential for success in this role.
