About the position

Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is seeking a talented Senior Technical Writer to join our Veterans Affairs (VA) department. This full-time position is designed for experienced professionals who are adept at writing, editing, and publishing a variety of technical documents. The Senior Technical Writer will play a crucial role in gathering, analyzing, and composing technical information necessary for the preparation of user manuals, training materials, installation guides, proposals, and reports. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all documentation is clear, concise, and accessible to both technical and non-technical personnel. In this role, the Senior Technical Writer will conduct thorough research to ensure the use of proper technical terminology and will edit functional descriptions, system specifications, user manuals, and special reports. The ability to translate complex technical information into readable documents is essential, as is the capacity to work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders who may have competing priorities. This position is 100% remote, but candidates should be prepared for potential travel as required by project needs. Candidates must possess a Public Trust (NACI) security clearance or be eligible to obtain one, as this position involves access to sensitive information. Additionally, U.S. citizenship is a requirement for this opportunity. The role is contingent upon contract award, and applicants selected will undergo a government security investigation and background checks, including criminal history, employment verification, and creditworthiness.

Responsibilities

  • Write, edit, and publish reports and technical documents.
  • Gather, analyze, and compose technical information required for preparation of user manuals, training materials, installation guides, proposals, reports, etc.
  • Edit functional descriptions, system specifications, user manuals, special reports, or any other customer deliverables and documents.
  • Conduct research and ensure the use of proper technical terminology.
  • Translate technical information into clear, readable documents to be used by technical and non-technical personnel.

Requirements

  • Outstanding communication skills.
  • An ability to work with multiple stakeholders who may have competing priorities.
  • Experience writing, editing, and publishing reports and technical documents.
  • Strong experience with computer-based systems.
  • Eight (8) years of professional experience.
  • BA/BS degree in a relevant field.
  • U.S. Citizenship required for this specific opportunity.
  • Must possess or qualify for a Public Trust (NACI) security clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) highly preferred.
