About the position

The Data Center Operations Engineer is responsible for troubleshooting and resolving a variety of data center infrastructure issues, including hardware, fiber, and networking problems. This role involves engaging in physical activities within the data center, ensuring the smooth operation of equipment, and maintaining service level agreements through proactive issue detection and reporting. The engineer will also take ownership of technical issues, collaborate with other teams, and contribute to process improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Engage in physical data center activities including planning and tracking capacity, rack deployment, and hardware troubleshooting.
  • Lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Work in cramped and/or elevated locations and in a noisy environment.
  • Stand and walk for up to 8+ hours a day, and ascend/descend ladders and stairs safely.
  • Take ownership of technical issues and engage other teams for resolution.
  • Maintain service level agreements through proactive issue detection and reporting.
  • Install various hardware and complete service orders accurately and timely.
  • Perform routine operational maintenance support and hardware maintenance.
  • Respond quickly to customer requests and resolve technical problems effectively.
  • Participate in scheduled maintenance activities with multiple parties.
  • Coordinate with other technical teams to complete various tasks and projects.

Requirements

  • Ability to write concise and accurate reports.
  • Ability to escalate data center incidents and respond to alarms.
  • Effective communication skills with customers and internal staff.
  • Quick learning ability to address issues in a Mission Critical 24×7 environment.
  • Schedule flexibility to work non-standard business hours.
  • Strong work ethic and accountability.
  • Ability to work independently and follow escalation procedures.
  • Ability to logically analyze and solve problems.
  • Ability to multi-task while assisting customers and working on multiple projects.
  • Familiarity with computer systems and software programs (e.g., MS Word, Excel, MS Outlook).
  • Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
  • Comfortable working in a high-stress, fast-paced environment.
