About the position

The Senior Engineer is responsible for the design, engineering, and execution of fiber optic network projects that provide essential communication infrastructure and services to Eversource. This hybrid position requires full-time in-office work for the first three months, followed by a flexible work arrangement. The role involves long-term planning for network infrastructure, project documentation, and technical oversight of engineering work, ensuring the reliability and enhancement of the communication network.

Responsibilities

  • Design and engineer fiber optic network infrastructure and services.
  • Generate detailed engineering designs and documentation for installation and commissioning of fiber optic and microwave equipment.
  • Plan for long-term lifecycle replacements of CORE Transport and MPLS CORE communication networks.
  • Review project documentation and develop telecom scope of work, including network design and Bill of Materials (BOM).
  • Create and provide the 'Issued For Construction' (IFC) design package and review As-Built documents post-project completion.
  • Develop and own telecom engineering projects from start to finish, coordinating with project management for technical justifications.
  • Attend daily meetings to assist teams with telecom needs and configure network equipment as required.
  • Coordinate with equipment vendors for product design applications and order placements.
  • Create high-level diagrams in MS VISIO and perform As-Built updates in GIS tools.
  • Review and approve engineering designs for telecom projects, ensuring compliance with industry standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications/Network Engineering, or related field from an accredited institution.
  • 5-6 years of relevant experience in fiber transport/backhaul networks.
  • Thorough knowledge of telecom theory and application in the electric utility industry.
  • Experience with telecom systems including private radio, microwave, and fiber optic networks.
  • Solid understanding of fiber optic multiplexers and outage management.
  • Working knowledge of SONET, TDM systems, MPLS, DWDM, and Ethernet technologies.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Professional Engineering License
  • Master's degree in a relevant field
  • Experience with OPGW and ADSS design considerations
  • Familiarity with Protection and Control schemes
  • Experience with construction drawings and As-Built documents.
