About the position

The Senior Telecommunications Specialist (STS) role at the Washington State Patrol (WSP) involves providing 24/7 maintenance, installation, and support for public safety communication systems. This includes both digital and analog microwave radio systems, land mobile radio base stations, and various telecommunications devices. The position requires a proactive approach to ensure the functionality and reliability of communication infrastructure, as well as the ability to respond to emergencies and system outages.

Responsibilities

• Operate as a journeyman level technician providing maintenance, installation, and support for WSP public safety communication systems.
• Perform semi-annual and annual preventive maintenance and repairs on microwave radio systems and telecommunications equipment.
• Conduct monthly inspections of assigned communication sites to ensure they are clean, safe, and functional.
• Provide installation, programming, and repairs for WSP and contracted outside agencies in assigned geographical locations.
• Respond to system outages outside of normal business hours and participate in a standby rotation.
• Restore service to affected parties during Emergency Communication System service outages.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED equivalent.
• Valid Washington State driver's license.
• Two years of formal education or training in electronics.
• Five years of paid experience in maintenance and repair of two-way radio systems, digital and analog microwave systems, or wireless and wired data network systems.
• Experience and understanding of computer-based applications.
• Knowledge of computer networks, wiring standards, and protocols.
