About the position

Highmark Health is seeking a Senior Test Engineer to join our agile scrum team in Topeka, Kansas. This role is crucial for ensuring the quality of our software products, which are designed to be scalable across all digital channels to effectively serve our customers. The Senior Test Engineer will take a comprehensive approach to software quality, focusing on both the technical aspects and the customer experience. This position involves active participation in the entire Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), from idea generation and business analysis to UX design and rigorous testing against industry standards for quality assurance and compliance. The incumbent will be responsible for developing and executing test automation code as part of ongoing regression testing standards. This includes writing test case documents, test plan documents, and test results that adhere to SOC2 standards. The Senior Test Engineer will also mentor junior test engineers, ensuring they understand the requirements and best practices for software quality assurance. Additionally, the role requires collaboration with software engineers, product analysts, and other stakeholders to understand the requirements for new or enhanced features, and to contribute to an evolving product backlog. As part of an agile work team, the Senior Test Engineer will participate in all scrum ceremonies, assist in sprint planning, and communicate any issues or blockers to the Scrum Master. The role also involves monitoring work against the production schedule and providing regular progress updates. The Senior Test Engineer will work with various QA Automation technologies, including Java programming, Selenium, and Appium, and will be expected to refine the Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CICD) process while engaging in code reviews. This position is office-based and may require occasional travel to various work sites.

Responsibilities

  • Write, execute, analyze, and test software products to ensure high quality applications.
  • Develop and execute test automation code as part of ongoing regression testing standards.
  • Participate in all aspects of the SDLC process, including idea generation, business analysis, UX design, and testing.
  • Mentor junior test engineers and provide guidance on best practices for software quality assurance.
  • Collaborate with software engineers, product analysts, and stakeholders to understand requirements for new or enhanced features.
  • Create and maintain test case documents, test plan documents, and test results adhering to SOC2 standards.
  • Participate in scrum ceremonies and assist in sprint planning and execution of software applications.
  • Monitor work against production schedules and report progress and issues to senior analysts/principals.
  • Coordinate release night activities and ensure successful product updates.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems, Healthcare Administration, or a closely related field.
  • 5 years of experience writing test artifacts that adhere to SOC2 standards.
  • 1 year of experience developing test automation software according to coding and industry best practices.
  • 1 year of experience mentoring junior Test Engineers.
  • 5 years of experience writing test cases or test plans according to standard templates.
  • Strong knowledge of the full software development life cycle, including requirements, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in Information Systems, Business Management, or Healthcare Administration.
  • 5 years of hands-on experience in various types of testing including Functional, UI, Integration, Negative, Database, API, and Regression Testing.
  • 2 years of experience with test management tools.
  • 2 years of experience working on Cloud platform-based applications.
