About the position

The Senior Tester/SME Software Quality Assurance position involves providing essential software development support and services for the U.S. Census Bureau (USCB) in preparation for the 2026 Census Test requirements. This role is critical in delivering a robust, integrated Information Technology (IT) solution that includes a FedRAMP SaaS cloud-based platform aimed at automating, standardizing, and streamlining job applications and assessments. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating innovative front-end solutions that enhance the current automated processes, facilitating a seamless integrated approach to recruiting, assessment, and onboarding. This includes developing a public-facing applicant portal that allows users to complete and submit applications, assessments, and documentation efficiently. In this role, the Senior Tester will lead the creation of test plans and execution strategies, assist in impact analysis on affected applications, and coordinate testing and implementation efforts with programming, DBA, QA, and functional testers. The position also involves supporting User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and providing training to end users or customers. The candidate will develop materials for and facilitate business working group sessions, troubleshoot system issues in collaboration with both Business and IT teams, and manage multiple initiatives that require both business and technical acumen. Additionally, the role includes analyzing requests for change, coding, testing new functionalities, and creating technical design documents and implementation plans. Regular attendance and the ability to perform other assigned duties are also expected.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver a robust, integrated IT solution providing a FedRAMP SaaS cloud-based platform for automation, standardization, and streamlining of job applications and assessments.
  • Provide an innovative front-end solution to supplement current automated processes for recruiting, assessment, and onboarding.
  • Lead the creation of test plans and test execution strategy.
  • Assist with impact analysis on affected applications and coordinate testing and implementation with programming, DBA, QA, and functional testers.
  • Assist with User Acceptance Testing and end user/customer training.
  • Develop materials for and facilitate Business working group sessions.
  • Work with Business and IT to troubleshoot system issues and coordinate resolution.
  • Analyze requests for change, code, and test new functionality, create technical design documents, unit test, and implementation plans.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Seven plus (7+) years of Software Quality Assurance and Testing experience with system configuration, software and custom application development, computer systems architecture, information systems, and data communications.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field is preferred; a Master's degree with five (5) years' experience is also acceptable.
  • Must obtain and maintain any necessary USCB security access and/or background checks.

  • Technical experience meeting tight development schedules within the prescribed project times as projected by the development team.
  • Proven track record in building strong working relationships at various levels in the business and IT community to ensure overall project satisfaction.
  • Ability to support multiple development projects simultaneously on a weekly basis.
  • Provide written insight to developer tasks as well as a summary of any management activity such as meetings with customers.
