About the position

The Senior Transit and Rail Systems Engineer will play a crucial role in the Transit and Rail Systems Team at WSP, focusing on high-level projects throughout their lifecycle. This position involves applying systems engineering concepts, developing plans and specifications, and overseeing the implementation of advanced technologies to ensure safety and functionality in transit and rail systems. The engineer will collaborate with various professionals to execute multiple concurrent projects, ensuring compliance with regulations and sound engineering practices.

Responsibilities

  • Apply Systems Engineering concepts and processes to transit and rail projects throughout their lifecycle.
  • Develop transit and rail systems plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Prepare construction safety and phasing plans, and update system layout plans.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of advanced technologies and operating strategies.
  • Work as part of a cross-functional team to execute project work on multiple concurrent projects.
  • Assist with engineering review of design plans and specifications to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Remain current in the latest transit and rail engineering techniques and practices.
  • Collaborate with professionals from various disciplines on funded improvement and development projects.
  • Exercise responsible decision-making regarding company funds and resources.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or closely related discipline.
  • 10 years of relevant post-education experience in engineering with prior transit and rail experience.
  • Engineer license required (multi-state preferred).
  • Highly proficient with transit and rail systems engineering principles and practices.
  • Experience with transit and rail system planning, design, and program/construction management.
  • Experience with planning and conducting inspections and investigations on construction and design aspects.
  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills for diverse audiences.
  • Strong self-leadership and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and provide guidance to team members.
  • Proficiency with technical writing and discipline-specific design software.
  • Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in Engineering.
  • Professional certification - INCOSE Certification (ASEP/CSEP).
  • Professional certification - OMG Certification (OCSMP).
