A Senior Transportation Engineer is responsible for the design development of transportation projects on local roadways and state highways. This includes the preparation of design concepts and reports through the delivery of plans, specifications, estimates (PS&E) construction documents and support in construction. In addition to this technical prowess, this position will regularly include coordination of team members, interaction with clients, agency staff, other consultants and a variety of disciplines in the production of reports, permits and construction documents. As a Senior position the candidate is expected to also be skilled in the supervision and training of less experienced staff as well as able to manage projects and budgets.

Responsibilities

  • Design development of transportation projects on local roadways and state highways.
  • Preparation of design concepts and reports.
  • Delivery of plans, specifications, estimates (PS&E) construction documents.
  • Support in construction.
  • Coordination of team members and interaction with clients, agency staff, and other consultants.
  • Production of reports, permits, and construction documents.
  • Supervision and training of less experienced staff.
  • Management of projects and budgets.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • California registration as a licensed Professional Engineer.
  • Minimum of nine years of qualifying transportation design engineering experience.
  • Experience using CAD and Caltrans standards.
  • Progressively developing project management and proposal experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the preparation of preliminary design reports, design plans, specifications, quantities, and estimates.
  • Familiarity with Caltrans Highway Design Manual (HDM), Project Development Procedures Manual (PDPM), CT Standard Plans, CA Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (CAMUTCD), and AASHTO Greenbook.
  • Coordination of environmental and other disciplines for project public outreach.
  • Exposure to construction activities.
