About the position

The City of Alexandria's Finance Department is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Treasury Accountant to manage the City's accounts receivable systems. This role involves ensuring accurate and timely financial transactions across various tax systems and collaborating with Treasury staff to maintain a customer-focused operation. The Senior Treasury Accountant will also be responsible for auditing, testing, and implementing financial systems, while working under the supervision of the Deputy Treasurer.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure accurate and timely reflection of transactions in the City's accounts receivable systems.
  • Collaborate with Treasury staff to manage a customer-focused operation in a fast-paced environment.
  • Resolve complex financial issues, including bank and system reconciliation problems.
  • Assist in training and coaching staff on cash handling and accounting procedures.
  • Prepare documentation for external auditors and perform ad hoc audits of accounts.
  • Respond to customer issues that cannot be resolved by other staff, both in person and through various communication channels.
  • Research and prepare correspondence for the Finance Director in response to customer complaints.
  • Collaborate with the Financial Business Process team to resolve issues in accounts receivable systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Two years of applicable experience in accounting or finance, or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Strong understanding of local government tax collection and accounts receivables.
  • Experience with financial system implementation and maintenance in a large organization.
  • Ability to perform complex reconciliations and resolve financial issues.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables and vlookup.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience utilizing accounts receivable systems in a large organization.
  • Experience performing financial system implementation, including user acceptance testing and project management.
  • Experience in local or state government tax assessment and collection.
