About the position

The Senior UI/UX Designer at Harvard Medical School will play a crucial role in developing AI-driven data visualization tools and user interfaces for a multi-year project funded by the US government. This position focuses on ensuring that the user experience and interfaces meet the needs of a diverse community of scientists, clinicians, and stakeholders. The designer will utilize advanced user research techniques, create wireframes and high-fidelity mockups, and collaborate with software developers and researchers to achieve project goals. The role also involves coordinating with other UI/UX designers and developing processes for design work within the HIDIVE Lab.

Responsibilities

  • Function as subject matter expert to frame, scope, and lead multiple interdisciplinary projects using a collaborative approach
  • Develop detailed UX specifications and documentation
  • Develop and annotate user flows, journeys, and personas
  • Create intuitive interfaces and interaction layers using best practices, the latest web trends and all available tools to augment the user experience
  • Illustrate design ideas with clear storyboards, process flows, sitemaps, prototypes, wireframes, and high-fidelity mockups
  • Create text content and images for digital screens
  • Ensure work delivery, including accurate estimation, time management, & communication
  • Manage multiple UI/UX design projects simultaneously in collaboration with developer lead, project lead, R D manager, and the principal investigator
  • Represent the university internally and externally
  • Abide by and follow the Harvard University IT technical standards, policies and Code of Conduct

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years' post-secondary education or relevant work experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of UI/UX design work including user studies, user interface design, and evaluation
  • Comprehensive knowledge of and hands-on experience with user interface and user experience research and design techniques
  • Knowledge of and hands-on experience with website analytics and analysis (e.g., Matomo and Google Analytics)
  • Expert knowledge of Figma or state-of-the-art user interface design tools
  • Strong graphic design skills and experience in creating visual identities
  • Hands-on experience with GitHub or other collaborative version control systems
  • Working knowledge of the web application development life cycle
  • Experience with IRB protocols for human subjects research
  • Understanding of basics of molecular biology and biomedical research is helpful but not required
  • Motivation for mentoring junior team members, interns, and trainees and collaborating with peers across multiple sites

  • Master's degree in a relevant field preferred but not required
