About the position

The Senior Underwriter at Webster Bank plays a vital role in the Asset Based Lending Group, focusing on the execution of credit-related activities to support new business development. This Director-level position requires collaboration with business development teams to assess risks, prepare credit approval documents, and ensure compliance with the bank's policies. The role demands a thorough understanding of credit policies and loan documentation, with responsibilities extending to due diligence and closing processes.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Business Development Officers to develop appropriate ABL loan structures that manage risk and conform to bank policies.
• Prepare detailed credit approval documents and deal screens highlighting credit issues, risks, and mitigants.
• Spread financial statements and model projections related to credit requests.
• Lead the due diligence process during credit approval, including stakeholder meetings and interpreting third-party reports.
• Oversee the closing of commercial loans, ensuring legal documentation aligns with credit approvals and assisting in the onboarding process.
• Participate in projects aimed at improving and streamlining the credit delivery process.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a related field required; MBA preferred.
• 7-10 years of experience in ABL underwriting.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Strong quantitative and qualitative analytic skills with sound independent judgment in credit evaluations.
• Superior verbal and written communication skills for clear and persuasive presentations.
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational and prioritization skills.
• Proficiency with MS Office required; working knowledge of SageWorks and Stucky software preferred.
