About the position

The Senior Underwriter for Excess and Surplus (E&S) Liability at AXA XL is responsible for managing an existing portfolio of E&S Excess business while meeting growth goals and ensuring profitability. This role involves supporting the execution of the region's strategic plan, developing new products, and building strong broker relationships to generate new business opportunities. The position requires independent decision-making and the ability to cultivate key partnerships within the industry.

Responsibilities

  • Support the successful execution of the region's strategic plan with a focus on assigned territory.
  • Handle an existing portfolio of E&S Excess business, meeting growth goals and ensuring profitability for the region.
  • Support and aid in developing new products based on experience.
  • Create visibility in the assigned territory by communicating underwriting appetite and generating new opportunities through broker relationships.
  • Work independently with granted underwriting authority based on experience level.
  • Cultivate key broker relationships to maintain a steady stream of business within underwriting appetite.
  • Provide clients with service that supports the positive image of the company.
  • Build partnerships with other core lines to aid cross-sell opportunities.
  • Cross-market with other XL lines; meet with brokers and insureds as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or relevant work experience.
  • Moderate amount of E&S Excess Underwriting Experience.
  • Outstanding existing marketing relationships within assigned territory with experience in production underwriting role.
  • In-depth underwriting expertise across general classes and ability to manage a high volume portfolio.
  • Self-starter who is organized and able to work independently as well as collaboratively in a fast-paced team-centric environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain outstanding insured and broker contacts.
  • Ability to demonstrate critical thinking, decision making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication, collaboration, and presentation skills.
