About the position

The Senior Underwriter at Starr Insurance Companies is responsible for the development and growth of an assigned book of business, focusing on new business production, renewal handling, and account management. This role involves underwriting various casualty lines, managing profitability, and collaborating with multiple departments to ensure comprehensive service delivery to clients.

Responsibilities

• Manage all aspects of the assigned portfolio, including solicitation of submissions and underwriting analysis.
• Prepare and issue quotations and negotiate insurance programs.
• Conduct client stewardship meetings and provide ongoing service on accounts throughout the year.
• Focus on new business production, renewal handling, and retention.
• Drive accountability for underwriting production goals and profitability for the book of business.
• Collaborate with Claims, Actuary, Audit, Loss Control, and Credit on accounts.
• Travel to key markets/accounts to maintain visibility in the marketplace.
• Cross-market with other Starr Divisions.

Requirements

• 4-year degree in finance, engineering/science, business administration, Insurance, or similar is preferred.
• 3-5 years of experience in underwriting Casualty lines (GL, Auto, WC, and XS), preferably with some pollution experience.
• Proven track record in managing an insurance portfolio.
• Developed relationships with wholesale and retail brokers.
