About the position

The Senior Underwriter position at Great American Insurance Group involves producing, underwriting, and managing a profitable book of Fidelity/Crime business within the Boston territory. This role requires a strong focus on risk selection, pricing, and maintaining high customer service standards while developing relationships with producers and clients. The position offers flexibility with remote or hybrid work options depending on the candidate's location.

Responsibilities

  • Produce, underwrite, and manage a profitable book of Fidelity/Crime business.
  • Make risk selection, pricing, retention, growth, and profitability decisions within scope of authority.
  • Ensure a high level of customer service is maintained.
  • Oversee the receipt and analysis of submissions and determine terms to offer.
  • Ensure business is priced in accordance with company guidelines.
  • Enter, maintain, and monitor accounts using underwriting and analysis systems.
  • Order and analyze business reports needed for rating and underwriting processes.
  • Assess risk quality and compliance within company guidelines and initiate loss prevention actions as needed.
  • Develop and maintain effective business relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Conduct visits with producers and principals to retain existing accounts and develop new opportunities.
  • Act as a technical expert in interpreting and marketing products and services.
  • Provide guidance and direction to associates and other functional areas as a senior resource.
  • Analyze quality and quantity of risks underwritten and prepare reports to communicate findings.
  • Travel up to 20-25% of the time for producer and insured visits.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of direct underwriting experience, preferably in the Boston marketplace.
  • Proven track record of producing and managing a profitable underwriting book.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining a broad network of brokerage relationships.
  • High level of customer service and success in building effective business relationships.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities and strong negotiation skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • High level of organizational skills and ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other PC-based programs.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the Fidelity/Crime insurance sector.
