The Middle Market, Multi-Industry Senior Underwriter at Liberty Mutual Insurance is tasked with developing, growing, and maintaining a profitable and diversified book of business. This role requires effective marketing and underwriting decision-making, as well as fostering mutually beneficial relationships with agents and brokers. The Senior Underwriter will leverage underwriting tools, systems, and expert resources to guide and mentor less experienced underwriters, providing regular coaching and feedback to management on employee progress. Participation in projects that align with the company's goals is also a key aspect of this position. The ideal candidate will possess commercial lines underwriting experience, including auto, property, general liability, workers compensation, and umbrella insurance, along with established broker relationships in the Northern California area. The role involves comprehensive risk selection, where the underwriter reviews, rates, underwrites, evaluates, and assesses business applications for insurance. This includes qualifying accounts, identifying and assessing risks, determining premiums, policy terms, and conditions, and successfully negotiating deals with agents and brokers. In addition to risk selection, the Senior Underwriter will manage a sizable and complex book of business, analyzing the portfolio to identify growth opportunities and executing marketing plans to increase market share. The position also requires maintaining strong relationships with key agents and brokers, demonstrating responsiveness to their needs, and developing a personal brand that fosters long-term partnerships. Documentation is another critical responsibility, as the underwriter must ensure that files reflect a solid thought process and decision-making through comprehensive account reviews and compliance with state regulations and underwriting guidelines. Leadership is a significant component of the role, as the Senior Underwriter will guide and mentor other underwriters and account analysts, sharing expertise and providing regular updates. Continuous improvement is encouraged, with the expectation that the underwriter will actively participate in generating suggestions and problem-solving activities to enhance team performance.
